What Our Clients Are Saying
Working with Ink and Ash Books was such a positive experience. Not only was the feedback incredibly detailed and helpful, but they were also so kind and encouraging throughout the process. It can be nerve-wracking to share your work, but Jack made me feel supported every step of the way.
If you want to find someone who will give you a clear, cohesive roadmap for improving your book, look no further! The insight I received was exactly what I needed to take my manuscript to the next level. They have a real talent for identifying what works and what needs a bit more polish, all while being incredibly nice to work with. Highly recommended!
- Cathleen S.Some are born with natural talent, while I’m in the other camp, having to hone my craft through hard work, practice, and study. As such, I’ve attended professional writers’ groups and conferences for decades. I know that after I’ve poured my soul into a manuscript baby, birthed it, nurtured it, and raised it. I want another set of eyes that I can trust, someone who can smooth the rough edges I’ve somehow missed during my many refine-and-polish rewrites.
Over my years in this hobby, craft, skill, profession, I’ve come across many authors (with a solid foundation in writing skills) often skip having an editor go over their finished drafts. Some arrogantly deny they need one. Unfortunately, to their own demise. Yes, you should edit your work many times. I’ve met bestsellers, and they all credit their editors and always recommend using one. Why? Because it puts the final, extra finishing touch on a good manuscript, taking it to the next level.
This is what Jack has done for me.
I’ve worked with my share of editors. And like any expert in their field, not all are created equal. Some rise to the top. Others get by. Some should be filing corporate taxes. What makes a superb editor stand out from a good editor? A good editor will use a magnifying glass to point out the little splinters you missed and show you how to dig them out. A brilliant editor will explain “why” these little splinters dig in and weaken your writing. Not just saying ‘fix this,’ but are also teaching you how to write better, clearer, and more like the bestseller you as a writer want to be someday.
Jack breaks it down in a clean, concise, and clearly marked presentation of the edits, suggestions, and different colored text highlighting well-explained “whys”. Here is an editor that understands the bare bones of writing. If you decide to take your manuscript from good to great, Jack can do it. I’ve had Minotaur Books, Tor, and Random House look at my work, both agented or direct. Jack’s edits were in the same vein of quality and presentation. I’m thinking if I’d only had Jack on board earlier, I might’ve been one of those 1% of writers that make it to the coveted top tier of bestseller.
